The hallway This is probably one of the most important areas inside the house. It's your chance to make a first impression. People might well make up their mind the moment they step into your hall. Make sure it's clean, bright, and draws people in. If you've got period features then make the most of them. In a Victorian villa a tiled floor is to be expected. In a moden house you might have very little in the way of features. Can you use the hall as another area for furniture? You can if it's big enough. If it's tiny then you're best using paint effects to make it seem longer. Matching carpet through into the rooms that flow off the hall can make it seem bigger. White paintwork makes the area look bright and clean. Does your staircase creak? You should have this looked at - it can be very off putting and it may be as simple as adding in a screw somewhere to stop a step squeaking. Consider replacing hall carpet if it is worn and old. You can buy cheap carpets that can transform this area. Coat racks should be seriously thinned out and space undet the stairs
need empty out too. Is there master telephone socked in here, a radiator, window, coat rack? What's the light fitting like? These are all important questions to ask yourself. What's in your hall? Here's a quick list of things that might be in your hallway: What do they all have in common? That's simpel! They shouldn't be in your hallway when you're trying to sell your house. You may as well duduct £1000 off the price for every item you have in your hall that shouldn't be there. When you have a large spacious hallway you'll find that it is nice to have something in it. But more often than not a cluttered hallway seems small and crowded and doesn't bode well for the rest of your house.
